The residents, who are mostly descendants of the slaves imported by the Dutch settlers in the early 1700's, are very proud of their rich cultural heritage.

The area itself has splendid views of Table Mountain, Lions Head and Signal Hill as well as the City Centre and is a photographers dream. Many beautiful mosques also adorn the area.
